One of my favorite uses for surveys is to help guide product development.

There’s no better way to figure out what products to build, create, or sell than to ask your customers directly. The logic here should be apparent — find out what your customers want, and then give it to them.

They’re much more likely to buy that way.

But let’s take that a little bit further.

* The Wrong Way to Develop a Product

The traditional way to develop a product is to say something like “I love birdhouses. In fact, I love to build birdhouses, and I’m pretty darn good at it, too. I think I’ll start a birdhouse company and sell them on the main road around the corner from my house.”

And then you go do that.

You invest all your time, your money, and your passion into birdhouses. You design these beautiful finch birdhouses, and some other ones special for canaries, and a few more for doves and pigeons. Everything seems great as the first ones are coming off of the garage-based production line.

So you pack up your car with all your birdhouses before dawn and drive around the corner and set up shop along the side of the road. You put up a sign “Hand-Made Birdhouses On Sale Now!”

And then day breaks and the traffic increases. With high hopes you wait . . . but no one stops. They whiz right by you.

Day after day it’s the same thing.

Whiz. Whiz. Whiz.

Maybe you need a bigger sign? Maybe you need more signs? Maybe you should have a sale! Maybe you should set up on the other side of the road next time. . . but. . .

Nothing seems to work.

And it doesn’t occur to you until just now that maybe the highway traffic on the road in the California Desert between Los Angeles and Las Vegas isn’t really interested in buying birdhouses.

They want water, gas, and a bathroom.

This story is not as uncommon as you might think. Every day, people start businesses and develop products based on all of the wrong reasons. Passion is great. Trends are terrific. But if you aren’t giving your traffic what it wants, you aren’t going to have a business for very long.

I had a private consultation this week with a very gentle man who was still trying to make a go of his first online business. He wanted to sell cuckoo clocks online.

We had a long talk about that, because believe it or not, there are thousands of kinds of cuckoo clocks. The problem with this man starting an online cuckoo clock business is that he is going to have to work very hard to find the right kind of traffic in any fast, reasonable way so that he can get some good, quick, and satisfactory results.

So I’ll share some of the advice that I gave him, and expand that into a better way to select or design a product.

* The Right Way to Run a Business

Rather than developing a product and then going out looking for the traffic, how about you first start with the traffic, and then figure out what products it wants to buy? Once you figure that out, you get that product and throw it in front of the traffic.

I know, it seems backwards, but it works FAR better and is far cheaper than doing it the other way. In fact, you’ll be able to go into this new business with much greater confidence because you already know what the traffic wants to buy.

* The Reasoning

So here’s an outline of how you can use surveys for product development.

Let’s say you’ve got an existing business selling gardening-related products, and a small list of subscribers. You’ve got a small but steady stream of traffic coming to your website, and a few people buy your existing products now and then.

You’ve got to do something to increase sales, or your spouse is going to make you get a job. (Oh, the Horror!)

Here’s what you’re going to do.

1)	Build a survey page
2)	Build a Thank You page
3)	Drive traffic to your Survey

Once we do that, we’re going to add one more element to it to really make it powerful.

* The Question

The most important part of any survey is the question you ask. In the case of product development, you can ask a question in any of these three forms:

- Problem Oriented: What’s the biggest problem you have with X?
- Solution Oriented: What’s the one thing you need to know the most with X?
- Question Oriented: What’s the single most important question you have about X?

Depending on your own goals, you can choose any one of the three, or come up with something different. The idea here, though, is not to ask a multiple choice question where you pick the answers ahead of time. What you want is the free thinking of your potential customers.

Now, there is a time and place for multiple choice questions, but in general, you’d want the answer to be a lengthy stream of consciousness from your respondent.

Here’s the important part: You now have a clear cut path to use surveys in creating a product you KNOW has a better chance of selling. But you must take action. If you can follow the instructions I just laid out you will save hours of time and money in the product creation process.

Ezine publishing is fast becoming one of the most sought-after content-based marketing solutions these days. It helps entrepreneurs in building profitable business relationship with their potential clients through distribution of information.

Here are the 4 efficient ways to make more money with ezine publishing:

1. Expand your email marketing list. The more people you advertise to, the higher your sales potential. Strive to attract people to subscribe to your list by utilizing effective list building techniques. These include article writing, the use of squeeze page, posting of opt-in forms to your blog or website, throwing away freebies, and the use of your autoresponders. Focus on the quality of your list and make it more targeted by attracting the right kind of people or people who are most likely to buy from you.

2. Content. Why would people want to receive newsletters from you? They either want to be informed or get special promotions that are only offered to registered members. Thus, send newsletters only if you have valuable information to share and promotion to announce. Otherwise, don’t bombard your subscribers with newsletters that they will not find useful or beneficial.

3. Advertise. This is the easiest way to make money through your ezine publishing. Advertise your products and services by sending product reviews, unbiased recommendations, or testimonials of your most satisfied clients. Don’t forget to include your product photos, studies or researches that back up your products’ efficiency or recognition they have received from industry leaders, if any, to make your offer more credible and enticing.

4. Be consistent. Extended period of absence can make your subscriber forget about you. To avoid this from happening, write your ezine content ahead of time and load them on your autoresponders. By doing so, your subscribers will not fail to receive your newsletters even if you are away or don’t have internet access.

Hi,

Google is like the Holy Grail of marketing on the web. Rank well in
Google and your profits are pretty much set.

But there is SO MUCH bogus information out there, often coming from
the “gurus” themselves.

Jonathan Leger has released a new f.ree report that completely
obliterates the following myths about Google (and then goes on to
show you what DOES work):

Myth #1: Google Knows All and Sees All
Myth #2: Google Will Not Rank Duplicate Content
Myth #3: You Must Get Links From Related Subject Sites to Rank
Myth #4: Your Site Must Focus On One Subject To Rank
Myth #5: High PageRank Means Good Rankings
Myth #6: To Maintain Good Rankings, You Must Add New Content

..and..
MYTH #7: THE BIGGEST MYTH: Ranking In Google Is Hard!

And did I mention he’ll pay you for referring other people to this
powerful f.ree report? And that he’ll pay you for anyone THEY refer
as well (even while it’s in pre-launch)? Find out more about that

Before we reveal some of the tricks of the trade, here are a few myths and fallacies that need to be cleared up first. Many of these marketing misconceptions could be an obstacle towards your profiting from your internet marketing business. Not a lot of people use email marketing correctly. But the simple fact is that email marketing is one of the most effective marketing methods there is simply because virtually almost everyone uses email.

If you check out the email fields or blanks required to be filled up on various forms used in processing different transactions, you will see a person without an email address is basically a person without an online home. Email marketing campaigns can sometimes offend some people. The simple way to get around this problem is through permission-based, or opt-in email.

So here’s the real story with building an opt-in mailing list. After clearing the fog regarding email marketing myths, here’s how one can benefit from utilizing the power of your email marketing campaigns - building your own opt-in list.

However, building an opt-in list is not all that easy, particularly for the newbie. Here are some valuable tips on how you can succeed in this kind of marketing environment.

1. Strategic Data Collection

Knowing the right information about your prospects will help you to lower your expenses and make sales jump through the roof. Design a tactic generation strategy that will make people voluntarily provide you the information you need to create higher conversion rate.

An overload of data is never good. Ask only people for the opt-in, with their first names and email addresses. Then you can always get the profiles later once they make a purchase from you.

2. Implementation

There is an age old adage that says it all - ‘action speaks louder than words’. This can easily relate to the problems you have with email marketing efforts. It’s a good idea to use various strategies and methods that are often low-cost, in building your opt-in database.

Tracking the results of your email marketing campaigns is the best possible thing you can do. There is plenty of low cost and even free technology that you can use to make this part of your marketing a lot easier..

Here are some of the most widely used methods to generate leads and get traffic without overspending:

1. Use lead capture or squeeze pages.

It is an excellent tool for data collation and providing you with relevant info regarding your email offers. Use opt-in forms that collect your visitor’s email address.

2. Use of print ads, brochures, TV, radio and direct mail.

These are the more popular ways of marketing aiming to lead traffic to your site. You may want to ask for sign ups for email services. Make your web site more visible through these media. Offering a free newsletter and or some other rewards like a free report works for getting people to opt-in.

3. Use Customer Service

Good customer service can help a lot and you will benefit more from your email marketing. Support people with proper education can assist you in this and contribute to higher ROI. Techniques like offering account updates and special programs through email can easily land you those lists of valuable visitors.

4. Make your point of sale work for you

Forms for signup located at cash registers and other high-traffic and highly visible spots can be very excellent venues for your business to collect email addresses. Notification of upcoming sales through their email addresses and names can coax them to supply you with the information you need.

5. Conferences and trade shows can work well

Giveaway offers and other promotions are great for opt-in to volunteer their contact details.

These tactics and strategies will help you gain the trust of your opt-in list members. Instead of simply collating data for your own benefit, offer something of value to your list members. Now armed with this information, you can’t go wrong with building your own opt-in list.

Wishing You The Best In Online Success!

A lot of writers these days are trying their luck in ebook writing because it promises huge profits. However, not all of them are close to succeeding because they are not aware of tips and techniques that can launch their electronic book writing career. If you are a struggling ebook writer, these 3 intermediate steps can help you energize your electronic book writing:

1. Learn from the experts. Know their secrets and techniques and apply them to your ebook. How? You can download the best selling electronic book online and read them. Identify the strong points of the book, its extra-ordinary features, the benefits it offers, and other elements that made it a big hit to online users. It is also important to note the writing style used by the author, the images he incorporate on the text, and the quality information he presented.

2. Pick the topic for your electronic book. As you know the best topic would be your expertise, the things you are most passionate about, and your interest. After you have picked your topic, create your outline. Identify the aspect of your topic that you would like to cover on your book. Each aspect must be thoroughly discussed on each chapter of your masterpiece. Thus, it follows that the number of your sub-topic equates to the number of your chapters.

3. Keep your readers in mind. After knowing the elements that will make an ebook a hit, it’s now time to focus on your potential audience. Consider want they want to find in your electronic book. These can be information, tips, step-by-step guides, images, or success story. Also, identify the best writing style that will appeal to them. You don’t want to sound too formal when your ebook is about belly dancing, right?

A website by any other name, would not be so sweet….or so says the cyber-bard. Many times when we’re picking a site url, we fall prey to classic mistakes - here are the most common pieces of advice people fail to heed:

1. If you buy a .net instead of a .com - you will likely send more than 15% of your potential repeat business to the .com - often a huge competitor.

2. Not buying the .net, .org, .info, etc of your own name - to protect it on down the line. Serious online businesses should own all, and all should point to the .com. This is simple and the cost upfront is minuscule compared to the cost of lost sales on down the line. In addition, buying only the singular or plural of bikes.com or bike.com - try for both and again stop sending your clients to the competition.

3. Using a number in your domain name, such as FreeAdvice4Life.com, but not purchasing the freeadviceforlife.com address. Be sure to buy as many variations as you can afford, at least of the .com.

3. Keep it short and sweet - urls of less than 7 letters or digits work well. Others are very forgettable. Phone numbers are 7 digits for a reason - and the world isn’t getting any better at paying attention to details or retention. So keep it short, keep it simple.

4. Companies often choose a name and begin to branch out to other countries with a name that doesn’t translate well. Nothing worse than being an url that gains traction here and then becoming a whole new entity in another country - or finding your name insults someone’s mother in another language. It is, after all, the world wide web.

5. Do not use two different names - one for your company - one for the web address. A big mistake many folks make is doing something like: Consultants R Us as the name, then CRUS.com as the web address…or worse yet - with hyphens consultants-r-us.com.

6. Be sure you aren’t getting too close to the bone on a new name - or too closely emulating a trademarked name with cache value - and a large legal department. Doing so can crush a young company. Just when you gain momentum, they notice you - and you go away.

7. Coming up with a word without a current meaning and then expecting people to recall it without spending millions on new ads or finding you as clever as you did upon naming the company.

8. Forgetting that a name online has to “paint a picture” - Sam’s Bikes On Main doesn’t work online. Trying for something that is online oriented works much better than simply transferring a brick-n-mortar name to the internet.

9. Working on a new company name without first checking for the url availability. There is nothing worse than hitting paydirt on a great name to find out the url isn’t available. Check all of them before presenting.

10. Not buying potential misspellings - especially if your web address is something easily misspelled. Most people count on the average web surfer to be a deft typist, and it simply isn’t the case.

So, there are some tips on choosing an online name. For more info, please feel free to connect with me via phone at 404 516 4204 or via email at andygreider@comcast.net with “naming my website” in the subject line.

Autoresponders are excellent promotional tools, essential for Internet business. Some call them by the technical term; while others say automatic eMailer, eMail responder, autobot or mailbot. Whatever you call them the important thing is that they automatically respond to incoming messages, hence the name, and they do so without human intervention.

Autoresponders are great time-savers and you can use them for a variety of tasks. They never take a break, work 24/7 all year for no extra pay and hardly ever check in sick (providing you use reliable suppliers). They never query the task you set them and they follow your instructions to the letter. You will notice the plural being used, so you can see that more than one autoresponder is usually required.

With the Internet constantly growing, and new users coming online daily, you have a truly international marketplace at your disposal. Competition is fierce, especially in certain markets. Many thousands of companies are already competing for business so you must do whatever it takes to give you an edge.

The last thing you want is to gain that edge, attract hundreds of visitors daily, and then fail to capitalize on the advantage you worked hard to gain. All the companies and experienced marketers know that getting visitors is only the first step in business. What comes next is conversion or turning those visitors into customers.

They know they won’t convert all their visitors to customers, and they also know, or soon learn, that few visitors buy anything on their first visit. It’s commonly stated that it takes an average of 5 to 7 visits before a visitor will make a purchase. The key to your success on the Internet lies in bringing those visitors back for further visits until they buy.

And that’s where autoresponders fit in. Successful businesses know they must bring potential customers back, and the best way to bring them back, achieving a good conversion rate at the same time, is by using them. You do this by offering your visitors something as an incentive to return. The offer can be for additional information in keeping with site content maybe a free eBook or a free report.

If your website has lots of really useful content, and/or you produce a regular newsletter, your offer can be for free notifications of website updates or a free subscription. Anything of quality will do as long as it’s on the same subject they came looking for, or closely related to it.

Set up an autoresponder and it will generate a code for you to put a form on your website. Place the form beside or beneath the offer and interested visitors can fill in their name and eMail address.

You will need to write a generic response to the subscriber’s request and load it into your autoresponder. As soon as someone fills in your form and hits the ‘Submit’ button their message goes to yours and your message goes back to them right away. This will show you’re serious about serving the customer and give them the feeling of personal service. Personal service on a scale a single person would be unable to provide to thousands of customers, clients and enquirers.

There are many courses available online, like some people go for 000-077 and some go for 646-362 to enhance and polish their skills. If you want to become wireless network administrator then cwna is just for you. Another program related to networking is ccna network associate certification which validates the ability to configure, activate, control and troubleshoot average networks. The Microsoft certified desktop support technician mcdst verifies that you contain the expertise to effectively support end-users and to productively troubleshoot desktop settings that are running the Microsoft Windows OS. A person having RCDD has the basic knowledge and beginner stage understanding of plan, implement and integrate information transport systems and associated infrastructure. One can also get lots of helping material for different courses like S10-100 hand books, 70-215 hand books and so on.

Customer service is a major key to business success and autoresponders provide that service better than humans. They do exactly what you tell them and what the client asks. You can purchase or license scripts to install and run from your website, programmed to run on servers, or pay for the services of one of the many providers.

Your main objective is to make sales but your first priority should be to provide useful information and to capture as many names and email addresses as possible. Put faithful autoresponders to work for you, establishing a sense of trust in your visitors, and the sales will follow. Your autoresponders will help keep your customers and leads happy and up to date on your business, feeling special because you’re sharing and taking care of them.

These if used correctly, can be the pulse of your business. It’s a good idea to ask someone you trust to recommend a good supplier rather than choosing a supplier at random from the search engines.

Small business owners soon discover that walk-in customers might be intermittent, but you can sell products or services round the clock day or night without personnel expenses with an online storefront. After establishing a great website, however, you need to drive interested consumers to your site in order for it to have an impact on your business bottom line. Search engine optimization, or SEO, can be useful in bringing more potential customers to your business website, and SEO can help improve conversion rates as well.

There are different websites which are offering different courses and there materials are available online at different rates such as one can find 642-544 course guide line on different websites at different rates. If you search for cert keyword you will find lots of helping material online for these exams. Most of the field engineers are interested in <a href="http://www.testking.com/642-382.htm"target="_blank">642-382 certifications and will get brain dumps at reasonable prices. For designing and networking go for 642-071 preparation tool kit. One can also get online sample papers of itil exams for preparation at reasonable rates. Microsoft also offered many preparation guide lines and tools such as 642-452 preparation tool kit which guarantees that student will secure good passing marks.

Conversion rates essentially refer to the idea of how many visitors to your website result in in a closed sale, either of an item purchased or a service rendered. You need to make it easy for this online conversion to happen; therefore, you’ll want to optimize your website in terms of where it ranks in various search engine search results, making it clear and simple for customers to quickly find what they are looking for.

The beauty of this type of Internet marketing is that SEO can be used to bring more and better traffic to your business website. Search engine optimization can be used to raise your website’s ranking on search engine result lists, and it can be effective in focusing a consumer’s search in terms of images, searches for local products and services, as well as vertical searches used in particular niche markets’ websites.

It makes good business sense to utilize SEO services that will craft your online webstore so that it makes it easy for search engine spiders, or robots, to index your website. Each search engine utilizes unique algorithms in order to rank websites, and SEO service providers analyze websites to best determine how to work with the algorithms in place in order to make your business site more effective there. The actual structure of the website, including the presentation and coding used, can all play a part in bringing qualified customers to your business site. Likewise, if there are problems in any of these areas, it can hinder the effectiveness of your website, and these are matters that SEO services can ascertain and fix if necessary.

Another aspect that improves the quality of visitors to your site is the unique content that is displayed there. Content with appropriate keywords placed correctly can make it easier for search engine bots to quickly and accurately index your website, thus helping to improve your website’s rating in a search engine result list. Interesting content will also bring viewers who would like to learn more about the topic to your website as well.

Effective search engine optimization can improve your business conversion rates by helping, as part of a full Internet marketing campaign, to bring more qualified customers to your webstore, resulting in a greater number of sales or services rendered there.

Choosing a Webhost to communicate your ideas and wishes to the potential customers is an important task ahead of all the aspirant affiliate marketers. There are hundreds of webhosting companies that provide and boast of services, trying to attract the affiliates to join them. Whereas the quality of such webhosting companies remain unmeasured. And there is always a danger in that people get attracted to the low prices such companies float and thereby ending it up with disappointment and discouragement. So, I thought it fit to advise my affiliate customers, on how to choose a webhost, the basic features that are essential for inaugurating your website, after all, it is going to interact with your friendly customers. I also included in my pages, a review made by myself in layman terms, without any technical expertise behind me, about very good webhosters that are really worth their price.

How reliable is the service of a web host?

Most surveys indicate that reliability is an e-businesses main concern. You should look for at least a 95 percent guarantee uptime, to ensure that the service is indeed reliable.

What kind of performance can I expect?

A great hosting company has one or more T3 lines that are always connected to the Internet, not going through someone else’s network operations center. The servers should be fast, ideally Pentium Pro or Linux. You should also let your host know if you plan to use bandwidth killers such as streaming audio or video.

How good is phone support?

When it comes to phone support, you should look for 24/7 phone support that’s always available with a live operator. Once you have found out, you should always check it. Call or email the technical support line at 10 o clock on Sunday night then expect it to be answered.

How much will it cost me?

The entry level hosting service with a single domain name, 200- 300 GB (Giga Bytes) of hard drive space, email services, and up to a 3000 GB (Giga Bytes) of monthly bandwidth should cost you no more than 100 dollars.

How is security handled?

The passwords to your website or domain should be required to control the host as well as manage the web site. Every file on your server should also be backed up on a daily basis. You should always look for a host that offers you secure transactions as well.

How much bandwidth will I need for data transfer?

Roughly estimating, 2GB of bandwidth should be perfect for a very small personal site. If you’re going to running a medium site with text and images but no large files, 5 GB would be ideal. Larger sites on the other hand, require 30 GB of bandwidth. Good hosting company’s will send you an email if you’re about to run out of bandwidth, letting you know that your site may go offline if you exceed the quota. This way, you can upgrade your plan if you choose to do so.

What about a control panel?

Almost all hosting packages come with some type of control panel, enabling you to configure your hosting packages as well as your settings without having to learn the entire operating system that powers the site. Control panels can be accessed through a secure webpage, and then they will appear in your web browser. The most popular control panels are Helm, Cpanel, Vdeck, Hsphere, Plesk, and Ensim. The most common is Cpanel, which only runs on Linux. Most beginners and other users would be more suited to Cpanel, as it runs on the cheaper platform of Linux.

What about a POP3 account?

When sending and receiving email, POP3 counts are very important. These types of accounts you can assign to individual users as their own email addresses. You’ll need enough POP3 accounts for the amount of email addresses that you wish to assign to other people. Often times this number will be quoted as being unlimited, although there are only so many email addresses that you can actually create.

What about spam and viruses?

These features are classified in a separate category, and can include autoresponders, spam filters, even anti virus protection. They may be important to you, but they will actually vary from host to host. Basically, these are all free things that the host will give to you when you sign up for an account. If you’re plan doesn’t quite offer what you want, your host may be flexible when setting up your account.

What about running my own online store?

If you are planning on running your own store on the internet, there will be a few factors that will be involved with that decision. First of all, you’ll need an SSL certificate for your website, so that you can process credit card transactions. Basically, these are 3rd parties that will take care of each and every transaction, for a small percent fee, eliminating the need for extra security on your server. You’ll also need to ensure that the server as well as the software is capable of running the script you have for your shopping cart.

I need help making that final decision.

If you plan on having a website that you’ll be relying on for income or storing important data, you’ll need to make sure that you go with a host that will offer you a high level of customer support. A lot of hosting companies will offer forums as well as their contact numbers; however the forums can be excellent when you are dealing very small problems.

In Conclusion

By taking your time and checking to see what each host has to offer, you’ll find which service best fits your needs. There are many hosts and many different packages out there to choose from, which mean you shouldn’t go with the first one you see. Take the time to compare plans, costs, and customer service and you shouldn’t have any problems choosing a web host.

There are many types of hosting accounts, so you need to put the research in to find the most suitable for your needs. You may need business web hosting or simply planning on getting a small hobby site up and running for something to concentrate on in your spare time, either way you can be sure to find the perfect package that will meet your requirements.

The main decision you will have to make is if you want shared hosting or dedicated hosting, many people will begin on shared hosting until they find their feet and their website becomes more popular. The main reason for this is the cost, shared hosting costs far less that a dedicated server which appeals to everyone. Especially if you are just starting out and haven’t seen the potential your website has to offer. The major downside to shared hosting is that you have less control over the server so you may not be able to perform tasks you need to. Shared hosting is where the server is split up into different partitions and then they are each sold on, this means that you will share a server with other people and will often share the same IP address. This could cause a problem with the speed of the website because the more information and data on the server the longer it will take to process actions.

Dedicated hosting is where you actually hire out your own server within a company, this means that your websites will be the only ones uploaded onto that specific server. The main benefit will be to do with your privacy and security as your details are not on the same server as anyone else’s. Often the upload and traffic limits are much higher because you are the only person the server has to deal with. Along with the advantages dedicated hosting does have its downsides, the cost will deter many people as it will cost a considerably higher price each month you have dedicated hosting.

In conclusion, starting out you will definitely want to choose from the different shared web hosting providers and as your traffic increases switch to virtual or dedicated hosting.
